Our Business

At Resonac HD Malaysia, we specialize in the production and distribution of advanced HDD substrates, meticulously engineered to deliver superior performance and reliability.
Our substrates serve as the foundation for the next generation of hard disk drives, enabling seamless data storage and retrieval for a wide range of applications.
Our Products

HDD Substrates
Magnetic disks made of aluminum alloys are used in hard disk drives (HDDs) because aluminum is non-magnetic, lightweight and grindable precisely. Aluminum substrates are less expensive than glass substrates, so they are used not only in personal computers but also in home electronics such as HDD recorders.
Our Process
STEP 1 - Substrates

Substrates that are not undergoing any process yet is called BLANK
STEP 2 - Turning

Remove blank surface oxide layer, cut inner diameter (ID), outer diameter (OD), thickness, chamfer length, chamfer angle and chamfer radius disc
STEP 3 - Grinding

Control aluminium thickness, improve disc surface roughness and waviness
STEP 4 - Mekki

To plate a non–magnetic layer on surface, harden the surface and anti-corrosion on aluminium substrate
STEP 5 - Polishing

Finalise surface to improve roughness, waviness and remove plating defects on the disc surface to make it smooth and flat like glass
STEP 6 - Kensa

To inspect disc surface with AOI (Automatic Optical Inspection) machine
STEP 7 - QI

Inspection item including surface quality inspection and dimension inspection
STEP 8 - Packing

All disks that pass testing are then sealed in a vacuum package, ready for shipment to customers

About Hard Disk Drives
Hard disk drives (HDDs) are vital components found in various digital devices like computers, video recorders, and car navigation systems, serving as essential storage solutions for the ever-expanding volumes of digital data. They consist of a magnetic disk attached to a motor, with the magnetic layer coated onto an aluminium substrate. HDDs are indispensable for storing large-scale data, including high-resolution photos and videos, supporting the seamless recording and retrieval of multimedia content in today's interconnected world.
Hard Disk Drives Technology
Hard disk drives (HDDs) are essential components in computers, serving as the primary storage medium. They are typically built on an aluminium or glass substrate base, onto which thin films of magnetic alloys are deposited to store data in the form of magnetic bits. The orientation of these bits determines the output signals, which are then translated into binary signals for the computer to interpret information. The development of HDD media often advances in tandem with drive head development, ensuring efficient data storage and retrieval processes.
Hard Disk Drive Design
A standard HDD design comprises a spindle that houses flat circular disks, known as platters, where data is stored. These platters are crafted from non-magnetic materials like aluminium alloy, glass, or ceramic, and coated with a thin layer of magnetic material, typically 10–20 nm deep, with an outer layer of carbon for protection. To provide context, the thickness of this magnetic layer is significantly smaller than that of a standard piece of copy paper, which ranges from 0.07 to 0.18 millimeters (70,000–180,000 nm).box system
